Winter Flying to Alpine Destinations: Safety at the Forefront

With the ski season beginning we wanted to highlight some things you should keep in mind if you are planning a trip to your favourite ski resort.

Travelling to alpine destinations poses unique aviation challenges due to high-altitude airports and unpredictable weather.

NetJets and Flexjet operate only under 100% safe conditions, with pilots specially trained for these situations. In winter, de-icing is critical for safety and only happens after you are onboard to allow for immediate taxiing, ensuring a smooth and safe flight.

In addition to potential weather restrictions please remember that slots are limited at the most popular destinations and often are allocated very close to the flight date.  Consequently, you may not be able to fly to your ideal airport and must be prepared to nominate an alternative airport.  If you can avoid the most popular days and times (Friday mornings and Sunday afternoons, half-term holidays etc.) it will obviously make securing a slot easier.

While diversions are rare, they are sometimes unavoidable. Normally it would mean diverting to a lower altitude airport such as Geneva, Lyon, Bern etc, where the weather is less critical.
